Born Tipperary. I studied at the Limerick School of art and Design during the 1970s under tuition of Jack Donovan, Charles Harper and Richard Ruth. Graduated with NCEA Diploma in Fine Art and Graphic Design 1977. I have been residing in Ardmore since 1984. Artists Statement
It is within my nature to be an artist and living and painting in Ardmore, I find that the wonderful, unspoilt scenery in the area is a constant source of inspiration and stimulation for me. When in the creative process, I rely on this inspiration and talent, combining them with dedication and application, as without these components, the artwork would lack purpose and vibrancy. Influences in my work comes from many image sources, landscapes, people including books, photos, film, music etc. I specialise in portrait painting, which are not meant to be literal likenesses of people, as I deliberately omit some things, modify others and introduce some aspects which pass beyond the individual character to certain universal implications. Art is a personal experience for me and with a given sense of fine art, design and composition, coupled with a balance of light, colour and technique, the resulting work is one that is pure and true, with good intention to offer variety and surprise to be shared. Presently, painting in my studio in Ardmore for upcoming exhibitions and working on limited edition printing of my work.
